ABOUT JERRY

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

My wife, Andrea (Andy), and I have been married for 32 years, and we'll celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary on October 16, 2026. We have one daughter, Rachael, a son-in-law, Colin, and two grandchildren, Carter (9) and Sarah (15).

Family has always been extremely important to us.

OUR MOVE TO FLORIDA

My wife and I had always dreamed of eventually retiring to Florida. In 2023, we decided it was time to start making that dream a reality
.
We had both lived in Indiana our entire lives, as had our daughter and her family. We put our house on the market, and it sold in just 10 days.

When we told Rachael and Colin that we were selling our house and moving to Florida, their response was:

"Not without us!"

They sold their house about two months after ours sold. We moved to Medley on June 23, 2024, and they moved to Parrish in August 2024.

Leaving our children and grandchildren behind in Indiana was one of the hardest decisions we had ever made. Fortunately, it turned out beautifully. Having them only a short distance away has allowed us to start this new chapter of our lives while still being able to spend a lot of time together.

WE LOVE MEDLEY

My wife and I absolutely love living in Medley.

One of the things we enjoy most is having so many friends right here in our community. Before moving to Medley, getting together with friends usually required coordinating everyone's schedules and making plans well in advance.

Here, it's completely different.

We can go to the clubhouse on almost any day or evening and run into 10 or 15 friends. We can spend hours talking, enjoying a meal, having a drink, or watching some entertainment together.

That sense of community is one of the things that makes Medley special to us.

YES, I PLAY PICKLEBALL

If you've spent much time around the pickleball courts, you've probably seen me.

I play pickleball seven days a week—and I'm still not very good at it!

But I love playing, and I've made hundreds of friends through pickleball. I also enjoy helping my friend Tom teach a beginner pickleball class.

For me, pickleball is about much more than the game. It's another way that people in our community connect with each other.

MARTIAL ARTS

Martial arts has been a major part of my life for more than 25 years.

I'm a 5th degree black belt in Taekwondo and a 3rd degree black belt in Hapkido. I owned and operated a martial arts school for many years before selling the business and moving to Florida.

Martial arts taught me much more than the physical aspects of self-defense. It taught me discipline, courage, perseverance, and the importance of setting goals and working to accomplish them.

Teaching martial arts also taught me a great deal about leadership, patience, communication, and helping other people succeed.

BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY & PROBLEM SOLVING

I've owned multiple businesses throughout my career and have always enjoyed figuring out how things work and finding ways to make them work better.

I'm extremely interested in computers and electronics, and I've developed commercial software that I've sold around the world. I'm very comfortable with both Microsoft and Google products and enjoy using technology to solve problems and make things more efficient.

I sometimes describe myself as a "jack of all trades, master of none."

I've learned a little about a lot of things, and I've never been afraid to learn something new when I need to.

SERVING OTHERS

I've always enjoyed helping other people, especially those who need a little extra assistance.

I'm a Christian and attend Bayside Community Church. Before moving to Florida, I served as an elder in my church in Indiana and served on the church board.

As a church elder, part of our responsibility was to shepherd our congregation and help people who were going through difficult circumstances. That could mean providing assistance, finding resources, listening to someone who needed to talk, or simply being there when someone needed help.

That experience had a lasting impact on me.

This is where much of my belief in servant leadership comes from.

I believe leadership isn't about having authority over other people. It's about being willing to serve them, listen to them, and do what you can to help.

WHY I'M RUNNING

I didn't move to Medley planning to become involved in HOA politics.

I became involved because I care about our community.

I've found that I have experience and skills that can be useful here, whether that's working with technology, solving problems, organizing information, managing projects, or simply being willing to listen and help.
I also recognize that I don't have all the answers. No one does.

But I am willing to listen, ask questions, do my homework, and work with others to find solutions.

My wife and I chose Medley because we wanted this to be our home. We've made friends here, become part of the community, and built a life that we really enjoy.

I would be honored to have the opportunity to serve the community that we now call home.
