Responsible Governance

FOLLOWING THE RULES THAT GOVERN OUR COMMUNITY

I believe the HOA Board has a responsibility to follow our governing documents, Florida law, and the proper procedures when making decisions that affect our community.

Being on the Board isn't about doing whatever we think is best. Board members have been entrusted by the homeowners with the responsibility to follow the rules that govern our community and to make decisions fairly and consistently.

OUR GOVERNING DOCUMENTS MATTER

Our community has governing documents that establish how our HOA is supposed to operate. These documents aren't just something to refer to when there is a disagreement. They provide the framework for how the Board should conduct its business and how decisions should be made.

I believe Board members should know and understand these documents and use them as a guide when making decisions.

FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURES

Good governance also means following proper procedures.

Board meetings, votes, contracts, expenditures, records, and other important matters should be handled in an organized and consistent manner. When there are established procedures, they should be followed.

If something isn't clear, I believe the answer isn't to simply make an assumption. We should ask questions, get the appropriate information, and, when necessary, seek professional or legal guidance.

FAIR AND CONSISTENT DECISIONS

I believe homeowners should be treated fairly and consistently.

Rules shouldn't be applied differently depending on who is involved, and Board decisions shouldn't be based on personal relationships or individual preferences. There will always be disagreements in a community of 854 homes, but we can still expect decisions to be made fairly and respectfully.

BOARD MEMBERS ARE STEWARDS, NOT OWNERS

Being elected to the HOA Board doesn't give someone ownership of the community or authority to make decisions simply because they personally prefer one outcome.

Board members are elected to serve the homeowners.

That means listening to different points of view, asking questions, understanding the facts, and being willing to work with other Board members—even when we don't agree.

MY APPROACH

I don't expect to agree with everyone, and I don't expect everyone to agree with me.

What I do believe is that Board members should be willing to listen, follow the rules, ask questions, and make decisions based on facts rather than personalities.

My goal would be to help make sure our HOA is governed fairly, responsibly, and in accordance with the rules that apply to our community.
